Regional Dog Shelter
About Us
We are a regional shelter serving towns in Franklin County. We are a group of mostly volunteers, led by Shelter Director Leslee Colucci. We are determined to help every dog who enters our facility in every way possible.
Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide financial support for the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter so that it may protect and improve the lives of stray, lost and unwanted dogs by offering a safe, welcoming facility, and providing care and enrichment until they can transition to a better life.
Our History
The Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter opened in 2012 due to an unmet need in the community for a place to house and care for stray and unwanted dogs. Because the shelter must be self sustaining, the non-profit Friends of the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) to support our services through fundraising. The goal since we opened has been to disprove the conventional wisdom that dogs "break down" in a shelter environment. We model our services after a day care center and work to deliver individualized care, recover lost confidence, and restore joy to dogs and to the humans who give them homes.
